The dried leaves of a tree that grows in South America. National beverage of Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay. Maté is not tea and is not coffee – it is maté! Totally different plant (tree actually). In South America, it is consumed for energy and medicinal benefits.
Antioxidants – what are they and does Maté have any?
Antioxidants = Good; Free Radicals = Bad. Free radicals are unstable molecules that enter the body and damage cells (contributing to premature aging, cataracts, heart disease and cancers). Antioxidants fight the free radicals. Your body produces antioxidants – but not enough to keep all the free radicals at bay. So, consuming foods with antioxidants help fight free radicals.
Maté contains more antioxidants than green tea, orange juice, tomato juice and broccoli. In fact, one serving of Pixie Maté Latte has 9 times the antioxidants of a cup of green tea.
Energy – Want Some?
Maté is the source of the Balanced Buzz. Maté does contain caffeine, but it also contains the stimulant in chocolate (theobromine) and the stimulant in green tea (theophylline). The combination of these 3 xanthine alkaloids (theobromine, caffeine and theophylline) is unique to maté.
The result is a ‘buzz’ without the jitters. No peaks and valleys either. The zip without the zap.
We strongly encourage you to visit the Pixie Mate’ website and educate yourself on the benefits of adding Mate’ to your regular daily diet!
